This marks the second year in a row that Timeless has taken the Canadian top spot in its category, and the third consecutive year that This Is Not Whisky has earned the Best Canadian New Make/Young Spirit title.
“Every day at our distillery begins with a question: What if we did things differently?” says Gurpreet Ranu, Founder & Head Distiller at Anohka Distillery. “These awards don’t just reflect flavour—they reflect our dedication to pushing boundaries, challenging convention, and constantly striving to improve.”
A Spirit of Curiosity, Refined in Flame and Barley
At Anohka, we believe in a process that respects both tradition and place. Timeless marries carefully selected botanicals with our direct-fire copper stills, resulting in an elegant and balanced gin with surprising depth. This Is Not Whisky emerges from the same cellars, a richly peated new make spirit with bold character and a raw honesty in its youth. For This Is Not Whisky, the World Whiskies Awards noted it is “Smoky and appealing, both in aroma and flavour. There are green figs, olive oil, and a mineral undertone.”

What It Means
These victories reaffirm our belief that a small, intentional distillery in Alberta can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best. They validate all the decisions made: from growing barley locally, to choosing peat profiles and, most importantly, to using direct fired distillation.
We thank our team, our community, and especially our drinkers — and we promise the next chapter is already fermenting.
